In 1957, historical Department of the General staff of the Israeli army conducted a survey of thousands of respondents (among whom were the commanders, military experts, historians and war correspondents from around the world).

According to the survey, a list of the best ground troops in the second world war: (Points from 10 - minimum to 100 - maximum):

  1. The Wehrmacht - 93 points
  2. Japanese army - 86 points
  3. The Soviet army - 83 points
  4. Finnish army - 79 points
  5. Polish army - 71 points
  6. The British army - 62 points
  7. Us army - 55 points
  8. French army - 39 points
  9. Italian army - 24 points.
