WWII German Wehrmacht Front License Plate

Product description

An incredibly rare, battle-proven, and 100% authentic WWII historical relic from the Eastern Front. This is an original front license plate from a German Wehrmacht (Heer/Army) vehicle, recently recovered from a ravine near the historic Gumrak Airfield (Volgograd / former Stalingrad, Russia). It was found directly alongside German military vehicle scrap metal.
Historical Analysis & Provenance:
• Affiliation: The prefix “WH” stands for Wehrmacht Heer (German Ground Forces/Army).
• The East Prussian Connection: The legible digits start with WH-1187… In the German military registration system, the six-digit block from WH-110 000 to WH-119 999 was strictly allocated to Wehrkreis I (Military District 1), headquartered in Königsberg, East Prussia. This means the vehicle was originally mobilized or manufactured in East Prussia before embarking on its long wartime journey to its final destruction in the Stalingrad Pocket.
• Vehicle Type: Based on its standard elongated dimensions and the remaining heavy-duty iron mounting brackets/clamps with original bolts, this is a front bumper/radiator license plate. Vehicles in this specific registration block primarily included staff cars (e.g., Volkswagen Kübelwagen Type 82, Mercedes-Benz 170V) and light field trucks (Opel Blitz) belonging to infantry divisions.
Condition:
Authentic, untouched battlefield relic condition. The plate shows dramatic combat damage, being bent and twisted, which likely occurred when the vehicle was destroyed or stripped in the ravine during the final days of the pocket (January 1943). The original white field and bold black painted lettering/borders remain surprisingly crisp and highly legible despite spending over 80 years in the ground. The mounting brackets are heavily rusted but completely solid.
This is a premium, named historical artifact from one of the most famous turning points of WWII. Perfect for high-end collections, museum exhibitions, or restoration projects.
