The helmet was found in one of the backwaters of the river Don near the village Vertyachiy. Nearby was a pontoon ferry across the river erected by the German soldiers.Due to the fact that the helmet is seated in a semi-swampy backwater it is well preserved but not preserved leather liner. The helmet has a dual repainted. The main feature of this helmet - the swastika on a forehead part of the helmet, painted by the owner of the helmet.
Original steel helmet M40 from personal collection. It was kept by a collector from Ukraine. According to the collector's helmet was found after the liberation of Kharkov. Liner and the strap was not preserved, so were replaced with not original. Therefore, the Liner and the strap on this helmet is a replica.
The helmet was found in the surrounding area of airfield Gumrak in 2017 during the construction of the new railway line. The helmet has multiple gunshot and shrapnel injuries, indicating fierce fighting in the area of Gumrak. Helmet has 2 additional repainted (one winter)
